ORREGIN is a purpose driven platform dedicated exclusively to artisanal products made using indigenous, transforming them into compelling narratives that resonate with socially conscious buyers.
We serve as a face for our artisans, directly showcasing their handcrafted, beautiful and functional products to distributors, brands, stockists and designers across the world.
By doing so, we:
- Preserve and promote the traditional art and skills of the artisan community.
- Empower local artisans with financial prosperity and economic independence.
- Give conscious consumers across the globe access to products that make a difference.
OUR PURPOSE
We are on a mission.
Millions of indigenous artisans all over the world will be the last generations to bring life to stunning products crafted using traditional techniques specific to their geographic origin, known only to a handful in their community that has been passed down for centuries over many generations – unless we protect and promote them. Industrial mass production has overshadowed the uniqueness of handcrafted individuality, threatening these artisans’ livelihoods and sustainability, in most cases forcing them to abandon their skills in search of better paid work to sustain their families.
This decline over the last 30 years has been rapidly exacerbated by the 2020 covid crisis, which literally overnight, killed off many artisans access to global tourists visiting their geographic location and purchasing their unique handicrafts. Without this window of access to global tourists, artisans who lacked the technological savviness and business acumen to showcase and export their handicraft treasures, faced severe hardship and poverty.
We witnessed this devastating impact first hand through our physical presence in India during lockdown. We made a commitment to ourselves that once we returned to the UK, we would make it our mission to be the face of these hidden, incredibly talented artisans. We would use our knowledge of what people love to adorn their homes and themselves with, and help artisans marry traditional craft with high aesthetic appeal and functionality to create unique, handmade and stunning products that resonate with the rapidly growing global population craving ‘slow’ purpose driven products as opposed to ‘fast’ mass produced goods that are starved of individuality, sustainability and longevity.
